This is a terrific time to look into children’s education franchises. Why?
“In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it’s more important than ever that our nation’s youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions.” – The U.S. Department of Education
Math Problems
If you’ve ever had the pleasure of helping your child with math…I’m talking about new math, I’m willing to wager that the word “tutor” has crossed your mind. More than once (x2).
It’s not that you don’t want to help your children. It’s that sometimes you can’t. And that’s where a children’s education franchise or an independent tutor comes in.
Then there’s science. Technology. And engineering. What?
Children’s Education Franchises And STEM
For nine months out of the year, most children attend school. They’re learning to read and write.
But with our fast-moving technological and scientific advances, there are other skills that are becoming increasingly important for our kids to master. They are science, technology, engineering and mathematics, also known as STEM.
To be sure, some of our children do well in STEM subjects and some do not.
For those who don’t, extra help is needed.
Did you know there are franchise businesses that specialize in tutoring children who are struggling with STEM subjects in addition to reading?
Like this one. Here’s another STEM franchise business.
Other Types of Franchise Opportunities In Children’s Education
There are dozens of different children’s education franchises.
For the purposes of this post, I’m going to focus on tutoring franchises, because that’s where the biggest need is.
And while there are distinct differences in the methods of instruction used, all of the franchises in this space are focused on one thing; helping students get their grades up. Here are a few of them.
Tutoring Franchise Centers
These are the franchise businesses you see in strip centers.
In these businesses, franchisees offer tutoring either individually or in combination with 2-5 other students.
Their child related franchises are usually open from early afternoon through the evening. In addition, most of them are also open on Saturdays during the school year. Staff-wise, there’s usually a director along with several part-time teachers.
Franchisee Duties
If you become a franchisee of a tutoring center, your role will be two-fold.
First off, you’ll be handling business development. Securing new students.
Secondly, you’ll be involved in the actual selling of the tutoring packages to parents.
Investments in a storefront tutoring operation ranges anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 or more.
In-Home Tutoring Franchises
In this franchise model, students (and parents) never need to leave the comfort of their own home because tutors come to them.
If you become the owner of this type of children’s education franchise business, you’ll be responsible for hiring the teachers and managing the business.
Note: You may find that there aren’t as many teachers who own these franchises as you think.
Instead, you’ll find businesspeople who like the idea of being their own bosses and know how to manage teams.
Finally, the investment range for franchises that provide in-home tutoring range from $50,000 to around $100,00.
Children’s Education Franchises: Specialty Tutoring
As you might imagine, children’s tutoring is starting to become more specialized.
For example, you can now find tutoring franchises that offer specialized curriculum and exercises for students with ADHD/ADD.
In addition, some franchisors are even attempting to tackle a few forms of autism by using specific brain-training techniques.
Another specialty that most of the major tutoring franchises offer? College test preparation. Why?
Because colleges focus heavily on SAT and ACT scores.
And these scores are so important, a good deal of today’s college entrants take these exams more than once to see if they can increase their test scores. That’s because those extra points can make a big difference.
That’s one of the reasons the test prep industry is now a multi billion-dollar industry. It’s also why more and more tutoring franchises are adding college test prep courses to their offerings.
Newer Offerings In Children’s Education Businesses
There are several new franchise offerings in the children’s education area. Especially in tutoring.
Some of the newer highly-specialized tutoring offerings in the industry include:
- Tutoring for military veterans
- Tutoring for children who want to learn computer coding
- Tutoring for children who are interested in engineering
To conclude, I predict that tutoring will start becoming even more specialized in the coming years.
So if you like the idea of changing a child’s life for the better, and want to get into a business with a massive need, a franchise opportunity that focuses on education children may be the way to go.
P.S. Don’t forget to do your homework (pun intended).
