
I’d like to tell you a story about The Burger King® Whopper® With Cheese I wasn’t allowed to purchase. Why?
Because I still can’t believe it happened.
The Fast Food Urge
Sometimes we get the urge.
It’s usually when nothing in the refrigerator is appealing. Same goes for our dry goods section.
Soups are looked at. That box of Kraft® Mac + Cheese quickly transitions from a “maybe” to a “no.”
When those things happen, the next step is a virtual tour of one of two main drags in our area. First silently, then verbally, we name the fast food franchises, and then “see” the food they serve. The next step involves a simple process of elimination.
Me: “McDonald’s?”
Them: “The last time we ate McDonald’s, the buns were borderline stale, so no.”
Me: “How about pizza?
Them: “Nope. Just had it last weekend at a birthday party.”

There actually wasn’t a line. Strange.
“Welcome to Burger King.”
Me: “Hi, I’d like to order Whopper With Cheese a medium fry…”
BK employee: “We aren’t taking orders unless you ordered through our mobile app, or through Uber Eats.”
Me: “Wait. What?”
BK employee: “Sorry, I can’t take your order.“
Me. Angryish: “Why not???“
BK employee: “Because our kdmilnf urkbbss, isn’t working.”
Me: “Huh? So how do I get my food?”
BK employee: “You can’t. Not unless you use our mobile app or…“
Nice Technology
In what world can a person with the willingness and the cash to purchase less than healthy fast-food, drive up to a Burger King (during a rainy, miserable-ass night in Cleveland), and be turned away?
Call me crazy, but this is simple stuff.
They have the beef and I have the money.
Obviously, the company doesn’t possess the technology to take my money and serve my food.
Good thing McDonald’s was right next door.
