The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has unveiled its new Business Resilience Guide, a thorough resource designed for small business proprietors who may lack familiarity with disaster preparedness.
The guide, structured into six distinct sections, assists in both planning for and recovering from disasters, featuring best practices and template forms aimed at mitigating risks for American entrepreneurs and empowering them to rebuild more robustly.
And speaking of disaster preparedness, it’s important for all small business owners-franchise businesses included, to watch this short video on the upcoming hurricane season.
Looking at how hot and dry it’s been so far this year, I agree that this could be an intense hurricane season. So be prepared for it, and be sure to leverage the SBA’s many resources.
The User-Friendly SBA Business Resilience Guide
From SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman:
“In an era marked by escalating economic repercussions from climate change and natural calamities, the SBA’s new Business Resilience Guide equips business owners with the necessary tools and strategies to fortify their operations, enhance preparedness, and rebound from disruptions.”
This user-friendly guide systematically guides small business owners in developing a comprehensive resilience strategy, addressing vital areas such as:
- Assessing the Current Landscape: This entails documenting critical operations and pinpointing dependencies.
- Identifying Key Partnerships: It is imperative to recognize and cultivate relationships with essential vendors, suppliers, and collaborators for seamless business continuity.
- Protecting Vital Resources: The guide underscores the necessity of data backups, cybersecurity protocols, and infrastructure safeguarding.
- Enhancing Financial Preparedness: It provides strategies for managing cash flow, securing emergency financing, and minimizing financial setbacks.
- Implementing Proactive Mitigation: This section explores tactics for reducing the impact of potential disruptions through thorough risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
In addition to this new guide, the SBA offers a comprehensive array of resources at SBA.gov to assist small businesses in launching, expanding, and thriving.
From financing solutions and business counseling to contracting opportunities and disaster assistance, the SBA serves as a centralized hub for the American small business community.
Note: I was involved with the SBA (as one of their small business writers) for 9 years…up until the pandemic. That’s when the the SBA had to focus on helping small businesses weather that storm.
