A while back, I listed " The 5 Top Reasons For Buying A Franchise."
Allow me to refresh your memory;
- To avoid dysfunctional bosses
- The desire to create equity
- A desire for more freedom
- A desire to create a legacy
- Community involvement
I still feel that those are valid reasons. I forgot one though…
Before I share the one I forgot, please read about the five top reasons to buy a franchise, that I mentioned above. It's important. Then come back here..
The one reason to buy a franchise that I forgot to include has to do with the times we're in. It has to do with our changing environments. (Not Earth's environment) It has to do with one of the most important aspects of franchising; Speed.
Speed to market, to be exact. When I do my franchise seminars and classes, almost always, someone chimes in with, "I don't understand why anyone would pay a franchise fee plus all those royalties for something that they could probably do on their own." (Please realize that I dream about statements like this!)
I answer with, "You're right. You probably could. But, how fast could you get to market? How many mistakes will you be making that you could have avoided just by investing in the franchise? How many extra months of economic hardship would you like? "
The person who asked that question usually starts shaking his or her head up and down (In agreement!) and we move on.
Speed to market. The environment that we're in requires small business owners to be fast on their feet. Technology has created this environment, and it looks like we're stuck with it. Everything seems to move lightning fast now. Business models can lose their edge in six months time! Do you want to be left in the dust?

Here's a question;
Do you feel that it's important for you, as a prospective new small business/franchise owner, to leverage all you can from those who have developed a system that can enable you to get to market quickly?(Like a franchise, or a licensing opportunity)
Or, would you rather save the cost of a franchise fee, and do it yourself?
