I’ve worked with hundreds (maybe even thousands) of wonderfully talented folks who’ve been on the receiving end of a company downsizing. I’ve been downsized myself. It’s brutal. I remember the feelings I had when it last happened to me, in 2001. I felt like a loser. I felt a lot of fear. In my case, I even felt relief. That particular cocktail of emotions stayed with me for awhile. But, life goes on, and here we are.
I work for myself. Me. The transition was tough. Lots of things are tough. Starting a franchise business is tough.
Check out this video. If you know someone who’s experienced job loss, send this post over to them. Maybe they can relate to it, and won’t feel so damn alone.
In this video, I mentioned a website- Franchise Online University.

I just returned from a presentation I gave to a small group of downsized workers. Most were from the banking industry.
It’s kinda tough out there now, although I was told that some folks WERE landing new jobs. Thatis good news!
Anita, Those feeling were real to me a few years ago (2001)
KimbaGreen, So true. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

You’ve touched a nerve that so many downsized professionals feel, Joel. This could be so many people ….
That was great! A day in our lives!
Hi Susie,
Thanks for stopping by, and sharing. I think we both know the feeling too, too, well.
As for yesterday..that’s what i DO.

Oh, Joel. This is spot-on and sent a shudder down my spine. You DO tell it like it is, my friend. And thanks for your advice yesterday. Again: Spot-on. Once I tracked down the franchise attorney I was able to get everything I needed. Not only are you a good friend, but a treasure trove of useful information as well.
Lila,
One good thing is that nothing ever stays the same, and you’ll be on to new adventures soon enough.
Thanks for stopping by!

This is so very very true. It IS brutal. And just when you’re feeling your very worst, you have to get on the phone and convince people you don’t know that you’re terrific.
