For no apparent reason, supposed business genius Elon Musk, with the approval of President Trump, has just fired hundreds of SBA employees. But, what led to the recent SBA firings?
It has to do with DOGE. So, let’s start there.
In My Opinion, Musk’s Doge is a Non-U.S. Government Agency
Why do I feel DOGE is a non-U.S. Government agency?
One reason is that the U.S. Congress didn’t put it together or vote to approve it.
Secondly, and this is a little geeky, the DOGE website isn’t hosted on U.S. Government servers, like for example, EPA.gov. I’ll show you proof.
Here is the hosting information for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). See where the website is hosted?

It’s hosted in Washington D.C. And the Agency hosts it themselves.
DOGE.gov is not hosted in DC. Look:

As you can clearly see, the doge.gov website is hosted by Cloudflare Inc. And, it’s hosted in Canada! Not by a U.S. Government webhost.
Finally, on top of the doge.gov website, it states that it’s “An official website of the United States government.” I don’t know how it is, but it’s written there anyway. But DOGE is obviously not an official “Agency.”
P.S. the website was put together rather quickly.
According to a review by ABC News, “The DOGE website, updated earlier this week to include information about the federal workforce across agencies, contained details about the headcount and budget for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), an intelligence agency responsible for designing and maintaining U.S. intelligence satellites.”
It gets better, as “Multiple intelligence community sources told ABC News that this likely represents a significant breach.”
And, it gets even better better.
The DOGE website was just hacked. You’ve got to see this.
Good job, Elon.
Is The SBA Important For Franchising And Small Business?
Franchising wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for the important work the SBA does. And, the IFA agrees. Look
But the SBA doesn’t just help with small business loans and education for current and future small business owners.
From the U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations:
“The SBA provides essential resources and support to small businesses and entrepreneurs across the country. This week, the Trump administration reportedly moved to fire 720 employees, including those recently hired to help small businesses and homeowners recover from devastating disasters. Communities and main streets across the country–from North Carolina to California–are still reeling from the impacts of hurricanes and wildfires; laying off SBA employees will curtail the SBA’s efforts to help small businesses on the ground recover.”
You’re Fired!
According to Don Moynihan:
“One SBA employee who had two months left in their probationary period told Government Executive they received a termination notice on Friday that was unsigned and did not have official agency letterhead. ‘It was sketchy,’ the employee said. “’It didn’t seem legit.’”
Fantastic.
A Short Letter to Members of The Franchise Industry
Dear Franchise Industry Professionals,
I’m not sure why a good number of you support Trump-and his “policies.”
“Trump is business-friendly, Joel.” Really?
“Yes. He’s going to lower taxes on businesses.”
Except the Trump Tariff’s will negate those “savings.”
And, how will you feel if aspiring franchisees can’t get their small business loans approved-because Musk, in his infinite wisdom, thinks small business loans are bad and too costly?
“Wait, Joel. What about the waste? What about the millions of dollars that slip through the cracks in every Agency of our government?”
Look, I agree that the waste needs to be looked at-and needs to go away.
But, you don’t do that with 22-year old computer coders.
Instead, you do it with highly-trained forensic accountants.
Folks who have been vetted and have the proper security credentials.
Who have oversight.
Finally, my wish for you is that you won’t wait until Trump’s “policies” affect you and your business personally, before you say something.
I mean, really?
You’re okay with this sh_t?
Why Were SBA Employees Fired By Trump And Musk?
Fired twice, actually. Look.
I don’t know why they were fired. And I don’t think they know either. I feel bad for them.
Heck, I feel bad for any of the thousands of people fired by Trump and Musk since January 20th. What a mess.
I’ll end it with this, from Senator Markey.
“DOGE operatives are working under the cover of darkness with access to small business owners’ private financial information. Congress has not received a clear indication of what DOGE’s authorization is or what exactly they are doing at the Small Business Administration. Coupled with reports that DOGE unjustifiably and suddenly fired several hundred SBA probationary employees, it is concerning that even the head of the Senate DOGE Caucus is not privy to their covert dealings. Congress must protect against breaking and entering into the private financial data of millions of hardworking individuals who rely on SBA. I look forward to the promised forthcoming briefing on DOGE’s activities at SBA.”
I’m sure this will all end well.
