Now, in case you didn’t hear about this franchise contest, here’s the original announcement, including the hashtag that’s being used on Twitter, and information on what Nora just won.
Here’s Nora’s winning entry;
“I want to become a franchise owner in order to assist my family with financial security, while bettering the lives of others. In our area there is a need for good paying careers and the franchises that I am looking at are in the human services field and can provide for me, my employees, and our clients. Franchising makes sense to me because the systems for building a successful, and profitable, business are already in place.”
We Talked, Too
I had phone conversations with every contest entrant, in order to gauge things like their interest level, financial wherewithal, and to also get a realistic feel for their time frame as to when they were ready to move forward on a franchise opportunity, if they found one that made sense.
One more thing; they had to be comfortable being in the spotlight.
Nora was, for sure, and she has agreed to allow me to take her through the entire franchise due diligence process from A-Z, publically. (Nora is also aware that she may be contacted by members of the press, and even some influential bloggers in the small business space.)
That’s because I’ll be writing about the process that I use as a franchise ownership advisor on this blog, (which I kind of do already) but with one major difference; I’ll be doing it in almost real-time, and with a real-live franchise buyer.
I’ve never done anything like this before, and Nora certainly hasn’t either! But, it’s okay- I’m pretty transparent to begin with, and I’m very comfortable sharing my franchise business knowledge-and even my specific franchise advisory process, publically.
After all, I wrote a book on franchising. And, that’s what we’re going to use as our guide. You can too!

About Nora, In Her Words
Currently working as Registered Nurse in the geriatric field, I have always known that helping people was what I wanted to do. I have also worked for myself for the majority of my life and know that I want to be my own boss; that sort of freedom is very precious.
As a young person, I worked in a variety of careers. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s that I found the healthcare industry. After working the night shift at a local nursing home, I was determined to continue my education. Of course, it was several more years before I could find the money to actually go back to school. The logical step, for me, was to get a certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After a few years as an LPN, I made a pact with two other friends: this was the year that we would all get our Registered Nurse License. Unfortunately, ‘life’ got in their way and I was the only one of us to go back to school. The education has served me well, but I have always yearned for something more.
My husband is a plumbing and heating contractor, and building another business, (in addition to his) seems like the next logical step for me. I will afford us more time together, help provide for us, and help provide for our employees.
