(This post is part of a paid franchise marketing campaign.)
Ranked among the top franchises in the 3rd Annual AllBusiness AllStar Franchise listings, Snap-on Tools, a mobile retail franchise, offers up an exciting business model for the right person.
The Snap-on Tools company has been a round for a long, long time. Do you even know how the name "Snap-on" came to be? It's a pioneer story…
There were massive changes taking pace in America, in the early 1900's.; automobiles were starting to get popular, and horses….weren't.
Cities were growing rapidly, and there was certainly a feeling of change in the air.
Entire industries were being created, as more and more machinery was being invented. In the late 1900's, two co-workers from a metal grinding company came up with an idea, but the execs at the company rejected it.
Joseph Johnson and William Seidman decided to go ahead with their idea anyway and came up with sockets that could be removed from their handles. At the time, wrenches were only one piece.
They created set of 10 sockets that would “snap on” to five different handles. The idea that “Five Do the Work of Fifty” revolutionized the industry and in 1920, the Snap-on Wrench Company was born.
What an amazing story. It gets even better.
The way they (the tools) were sold was quite unique; representaives from Snap-On Tools would visit automobile mechanics at their work, and demonstrate these innovative two-piece, interchangelable wrenches. The mechanics were in complete awe, and that's still the way Snap-on Tools are sold.

Today's veterans have three things going for them, when it comes to operating a franchise business. They are;
- Finely-honed leadership skills
- Personal discipline
- Comfort with technology
Snap-on Tools is heavily involved in the VetFran initiative, which was re-started shortly after 9-11.
VetFran is a voluntary effort of International Franchise Association member-companies that is designed to encourage franchise ownership by offering financial incentives to honorably discharged veterans.
As of last year, (according to figures shown on www.franchise.org) 45 Veterans have joined Snap-on Tools as franchisees, as part of the VetFran program!
Snap-on Tools provides $20,000 of new tool inventory to qualified Military Veterans.
One more thing; Snap-on Tools has some very creative in-house financing options. They've been providing in-house financing for years, and have really perfected it.
