The definition of a business franchise is:
"A right that is granted to a person or company to market and sell products and services as granted by the franchisor {the proprietary owner}.
The definition of a sports franchise:
"A right granted by a professional sports league to have membership in the league."
In a sports franchise arrangement, the sports franchise usually is exclusive to a geographical area.
Example-The Cleveland Indians!

A professional sports franchise enjoys multiple revenue streams including, television revenue, ticket sales, team merchandise, advertising, and other miscellaneous items. Sometimes, prominent wealthy individuals in the geographic locations adjacent to the sports team purchase the sports franchises.
One example of this was Ray Kroc, the franchise industry icon who grew McDonald’s into a 30,000+ unit restaurant franchise empire. Ray owned the San Diego Padres.
Part of the reason that individuals pursue the franchise business model, is that the potential to dominate the marketplace is there. Franchises bring with it a system, marketing, and branding, all designed to dominate a market area.
Since I am a Clevelander, I am hoping that the Cleveland Indian’s sports franchise continues to dominate baseball’s market area this week!
Here are my reasons why this franchise will continue it’s domination:
